Nigerian officials said on the 21st that at least 25 people were killed in an attack on civilians by militants in Kaduna state, northwest of Niger, on the 20th.

Samuel Aruwan, head of the Kaduna state interior department, said in a statement on the 21st that the attack took place in the Koala area of Kaduna state, killing at least 25 people and destroying about 70 houses. The Kaduna state government has decided to impose a 24-hour curfew in the Jema and Koala areas with immediate effect.

Aruwan said the imposition of the curfew was aimed at helping the security services stabilize the situation on the ground and restore law and order. He also called on the local people to cooperate with the security services.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

In recent months, armed attacks have occurred in many places in Nigeria, resulting in a large number of casualties and many abductions.
