The Israeli military issued a statement on January 2 stating that Israeli troops attacked many military targets of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip late at night on the 1st.
The statement stated that on the 1st, two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip towards Israel and landed in the waters west of Tel Aviv. In response, Israeli helicopters and tanks attacked a rocket manufacturing base and military outposts belonging to Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
